Sixth Form

The Sixth Form presents an exciting, challenging and fulfilling two years amid an ideal environment for girls to develop to their full potential. Opportunities abound for acquiring and using key skills for the future.

The Sixth Form is an optimum size – the five forms in both years each comprise around 17 girls - large enough to offer a wide variety of A-level subjects, but small enough to ensure that each girl enjoys individual attention.

Each year we welcome a number of girls from other state and independent schools. Please see our admissions page for further details on how to apply.

Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and Model United Nations are among many activities that enable girls to enjoy teamwork and practise leadership skills. They are actively encouraged to undertake voluntary work and charity fundraising, not least in the annual Fashion Show organised entirely by Upper Sixth, which regularly raises thousands of pounds. Sport, Music and Drama are extremely well provided for and there are numerous opportunities for foreign travel, including World Challenge Expeditions to such far flung places as Bolivia and Mongolia, sports tours and subject linked trips to Europe and the USA.

Along with their many privileges – such as use of the recently built Sixth Form Centre, not wearing school uniform, freedom to go out at lunch time and leave school early (if free) - there are also responsibilities. The Head Girl, Deputies and the Sixth Form Committee play an invaluable role in helping the day-to-day running of the school. Many girls in the Upper Sixth become Peer Supporters for girls in younger Forms and run many societies in school such as Philsoc and Amnesty.

Girls are given continuous help, advice and support by experienced staff with decisions about Higher Education, Gap Year opportunities and Careers. There are regular visits by Admissions Tutors from a range of universities and girls are given expert individual help with writing Personal Statements, completing their UCAS application forms and preparing for interviews. As a result of all of this, Withington's Sixth Formers leave us feeling confident and enthusiastic about the exciting futures that lie ahead of them.
