The founder of a charity crafting clothing for children in hospital received recognition in The King's New Year Honours List.

Amanda Chadwick, from Partington, the founder of Pyjama Fairies, is a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The mother-of-three is a mental health nurse with an interest in neurodiversity but it was another experience with the health service which led to the foundation of Pyjama Fairies. In 2014, her daughter Nevaeh Belle was rushed to hospital with a heart condition a matter of days after she was born.

The foundation of a charity crafting clothing for children in hospital commenced with her creating a gown for her daughter and continued with her creating a group of selfless sewists who work from home in their own time across the UK.

Pyjama Fairies makes hundreds of garments a month for free apart from the price of postage to those undergoing treatment whether major or minor.

Ms Chadwick's MBE is for services to young people.

Ms Chadwick said: "I am honoured to have received this recognition, however, this award is not for me, it is for the hundreds of volunteers who work tirelessly to create the beautiful garments for the amazing children and young people.

"It is also for the amazing Nevaeh Belle. Without her Pyjama Fairies would not exist. Thank you to each and every one of you."

A post on social media said: "Following the announcement our founder Amanda has been named in The King's New Years Honours List as a recipient of an MBE we wanted to take a moment to say how incredible our Fairy Boss Lady is.

"This award highlights the drive and dedication she has for Pyjama Fairies."

Ms Chadwick is one of a number of residents in Partington and across Trafford to receive recognition in The King's New Year Honours List.

The honours mark the achievements of those who make contributions to the community or to the country via work in any number of areas.
