The manager of Stanley Square received recognition for his contribution to the community when he received an award from the Sale Rotary Club.

Tony Martin received the Tom Morris Community Award over the course of a meeting at the Legh Arms pub on Northenden Road in Sale Moor.

Mr Martin, the manager of Stanley Square for around two and a half years, is renowned for going above and beyond the call of duty to set up his own initiatives and to support other initiatives, according to Michael Riley, the president of the Sale Rotary Club.

He received recognition for his contribution to the community in the form of a cheque to spend on an initiative of his choice and a plaque inspired by the late Sale Rotarian Tom Morris.

Messenger Newspapers: Michael Riley and Tony Martin.

Mr Martin said: "It was a lovely surprise to find out I had received this award and to find out the people had taken the time to nominate me.

"Sale is a fantastic community and it is great to see the people get behind any initiative I introduce."

The Sale Rotary Club meets once a week at the Legh Arms pub on Northenden Road in Sale Moor.
