The branch of Lloyds Bank in Stretford Mall is set to close in 2024.

The branch in the town centre, which is in the midst of a multi-million-pound redevelopment, is set to close on March 12 next year.

The business said the reason for the closure is a move to online banking and mobile banking, with 80 per cent of customers using these ways of banking as well as visiting alternative sites.

There were around 180 customers who used the branch of Lloyds Bank in Stretford Mall with regularity in the last year according to statistics.

The alternative sites as of March 12 next year are to be the one in Sale, on School Road, which is around two miles away by road, and in Salford, on Hankinson Way, which is around four miles away by road.

A Lloyds Bank spokesperson said: "As many customers now choose to bank online or on their mobile, visits to our Stretford branch have fallen over recent years.

"When the branch closes on March 12 next year, customers can continue to bank with us online, over the phone, in person at our Sale branch, or at the Post Office."

The Post Office in question opens on September 26 after a move from WHSmith, which closed at Stretford Mall three months ago.

It was open on a short-term basis on Broady Street, next to Pound Bakery, but from this week it is open on a long-term basis on Chester Road, next to The Hive.

Lloyds Bank confirmed there are to be no redundancies as a result of the closure as staff are to be offered roles at another branch or elsewhere within the business.
