Simon Rimmer asked for customers to come to his restaurant at Stanley Square as he announced the closure of another restaurant in the area.

The 60-year-old celebrity chef and TV presenter announced the closure of Greens Didsbury with a poignant post on social media this week.

The vegetarian venue was revolutionary when it opened on Lapwing Lane in 1990 and the announcement, a result of an increase in rent of around 35 per cent as well as an increase in other costs, was a shock to its fans from the last three decades.

However it is not the end of the journey after the launch of Greens Sale last year.

Rimmer asked for customers to come to his restaurant at Stanley Square instead.

The poignant post on social media, by him and his partner Simon Connolly, said: "With great sadness we have had to close the doors on Greens Didsbury for good. We can no longer make it work.

"Our landlord increased our rent by 35 per cent and this together with increases in costs made it impossible to continue."

It said: "Our Sale restaurant in is still open and we would love to see you all there.

"If you have a reservation with us we'll be in touch – love, thanks, and keep terrifying the carnivores. Simon and Simon."

Rated 4.5/5 on both Google and TripAdvisor, Greens Sale is among the top eateries at Stanley Square after its opening. As of last month, after the arrival of a bar with an alpine theme, the destination was at capacity for the first time since its development by Altered Space into a hub for range of businesses big and small.

The developer's directors Michael Brown and Mark Rebbeck said there is a lot to come in the New Year for a town named as one of the best places to live in the North West by the Sunday Times.

Mr Brown and Mr Rebbeck said: "We want Stanley Square to be at the heart of the community for generations to come.

"We will be continuing to develop this area in the New Year. There is a lot to come in 2024."
