Parking is still bad

I DO not share Cllr Alan Mitchell’s confidence that regular patrols of car parking attendants are dealing adequately with parking problems in the area around St Hugh’s Primary School (Messenger, February 12).

Where I live on Brookfield Avenue there is a constant blocking of the junction at Park Road by vehicles parking on the double yellow lines.

By no means all are parents dropping and picking up school children.

Many are using the shops and are too idle to find a legal parking location.

This has been going on for years and despite protests to the council and promises of visits by attendants, nothing changes.

I think frequent unannounced visits to the area should be made.

I heartily agree with John Weightman's comments. The parking situation in Brookfield Avenue is dreadful. At the end of the road, parents park up and wait on the double yellows for their offspring . Around lunchtime (12-1.30) you find gardener's half-trucks etc parked up while the occupants eat their lunch from the sandwich shop. Just yesterday I saw a large Trafford Council truck with road mending equipment on board, parked up on the double yellows & with two wheels on the footpath with two men inside. Parking on the footpath is another concern as we only have one in Brookfield Avenue! People with prams, as well as elderly & infirm people have to walk on the road around the cars to get past! This is all an accident waiting to happen & spot checks on parking seem to be the way to go - apart from people showing respect for the law & consideration for other road users and pedestrians.
