THE further investment into Urmston Leisure Centre is great news for the area and the glass front illustration is quite eye catching but it doesn't hide the fact that if George Carnall was to close then we will be losing 50 per cent of leisure services in the area.

Many of the activities that are held there will have to find alternative venues for their chosen sport because the development won't be enough to accommodate them or the option for some will be limited.

Sports such as the Trafford Sword Club, who have been at the centre for 28 years, and the Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, who themselves have been at the centre for many years, have already had to find alternative venues.

The squash players will probably have to travel to Manchester if they want to carry on with their chosen sport. At least four football teams will have to find another venue, the list goes on and not to mention the many sporting events and competitions that have also been held there for many years but will now all struggle to find somewhere suitable.

Now that there are plans to build a new leisure centre in Stretford as well as Altrincham, with some further investment into George Carnall Trafford would be the envy of any borough in the country,
