(Re: Community Centre Plan is on hold, Messenger, January 19).

THE community centre proposed for Timperley will be an Islamic Cultural Centre according to the Altrincham and Hale Muslim Association (AHMA).

I question why a religious organisation needs to accommodate worshippers in such large numbers. While there have been new places of worship built for Christians in the past few decades none have been on the scale proposed here. Why must Islam be different?

It makes one think the followers feel the need to make an assertive demonstration of aggrandisement. In addition the scale of the building will do nothing to discourage the separation of the followers of Islam from mainstream Britain whereas non-Muslims may find it overbearing and out of place The proposed centre will therefore do nothing to improve the integration of communities which Dame Louise Casey saw as essential to the well being of Britain as a whole.

The AHMA should consider a more localised incremental approach to meet the needs of their followers. This would also avoid the extra traffic generated by commuting outsiders.

There are lots of empty smaller scale buildings available throughout the borough.
