UNSURPRISINGLY, the Railway Street 'upgrading' drags on - well over six months now. One might have thought that the council could have used a company to carry out the work that had more than six employees, used in groups of three, with two watching one who actually works!
If the plan was to provide unloading facilities for what is left of the shops on Railway Street, I would have thought that a more sensible plan would have been to re-surface the road at the back of these shops, which runs between Moss Lane and Goose Green.
That would have entailed far less disruption to the traffic flow through Altrincham.
After all, that was the original purpose of that road, so as to avoid blocking the main road in the past.
The cobbles from that road could then have been re-cycled for use in making speed bumps on Railway Street.
David Olliver, Altrincham
