(re: Timperley Library plans)

TRYING to park in Timperley village is a nightmare. This development will make it much worse. It will mean the loss of 48 public parking spaces, a cut of almost 40 per cent. That is crazy.

Trafford Conservatives are putting the interests of a commercial developer before the public. Parking problems in Timperley are turning shoppers away and that is hitting local businesses.

We don't need any more luxury apartments in Timperley, especially when it is going to cause so much damage to our village centre.

The developer will make thousands out of this - but what do local residents get? Vital public parking spaces lost, more parking chaos and shoppers being turned away.

Unless the developer gives a cast iron guarantee there will be no loss of free parking spaces for the public - including the disabled - the application must be rejected.

What will be lost if the development is turned down? Timperley will keep its car park and there is nothing wrong with the existing library. It's already in a modern, purpose-built building.

I have already challenged the Tory leader, Sean Anstee, to come clean on the new library. He has failed to say the new building will be big enough to house all the current services and books, and that opening hours will not be cut.

That speaks volumes.
