AS CEO of the British Polio Fellowship I’m delighted to inform you of Anna Wafula Strike’s second fashion related campaign to raise awareness and confront stigmas surrounding those who are differently able.
Last year we saw designer Aleah Leigh create a dress that fully incorporated a wheelchair, made out of 3500 recycled train tickets.
This year she’s been asked go one further, and she’ll be creating a full collection that will be designed for people of differing levels of mobility.
I’m excited to announce that models will include Paralympian James Crisp and his wife Katie, author and QVC presenter Julia Roberts, and we may be surprised by a few celebrity footballers joining them as well.
There are an estimated 120,000 people in the UK living with the late effects of Polio and PPS, and creative campaigns like this have proven to capture the nation’s imagination, leaving a lasting impression and raising awareness in a positive and effective way.
The Fellowship is exploring options to secure a Premier league football ground as a venue for the event, which will be the icing on the cake for this high-profile and innovative campaign.
I am really looking forward to seeing what Aleah creates this year, and communicating our messages and raising awareness throughout the campaign.
Ted Hill MBE
CEO, The British Polio Fellowship
