I WANT to send a lot of thanks to all the people who helped us on July 20 when my son and I had an accident with another car on Hale Road.

Firstly my thanks go to the other driver who immediately rushed over to apologise and called the police and ambulance. Then we were surrounded by other helpers, a doctor who stopped and reassured my son, who has learning disabilities, who was very shocked and crying.

The man from the house opposite who brought us cups of sweet tea and biscuits and chairs. The receptionist from the Britannia Hotel's head office, who changed the battery in my phone and many other small useful tasks, as I was shaking too much to manage myself.

The police and the ambulance drivers who checked us out and the people who came forward as witnesses with offers of help.

My great nephew for running from his home to support us and stay on for the car collection and my niece for all her help and the man from Hanstons, who came to collect the other car and cleared the road and helped us as well.

We live in a village in the north of Scotland and were just passing through Manchester on our way back from holiday.

I am used to friendly, helpful neighbours but was delighted to find such support and kindness in the middle of a large town. A number of people knew the other driver and supported him too.

Thank you everybody.
