RE the letter in July 3 edition about the 'road improvement of Talbot /Chester Road' heading from Stretford to Old Trafford /Manchester.

I agree completely with the writer.

What was a steady flow of two lanes of traffic is now a painful crawl with jams and confusion where you turn from Chester Road onto Talbot Road.

When the new cycle path was first done I witnessed a near accident as two lanes of cars turning from Chester Road become one very suddenly, and cars were stuck half through the lights.

Ironically there was only one cyclist, who was so elated that when he got to the traffic lights he sailed through on red.

I made the same journey this morning and it was the same chaos and crawl but not one cyclist appeared all the way to the Town Hall and beyond.

Further on near Trafford Bar I spotted my first cyclist, who looked like a postman, and he was happily cycling on the pavement. Do the people who come up with these schemes actually do any research?
