Urmston Chess Clubs recent run of results continued as they avenged their opening day home defeat with a 3-2 victory away to Macclesfield.

The Urmston Captain started the victory in fine fashion, his opponent resigning after a mere 14 moves, his Queen trapped & doomed.

The lead was extended to 2-0 as Phil Shaughnessy exercised a game turning Queen-King pin. The home team rallied with a win on time and a win from an awful blunder, to bring it to 2-2 with one game remaining.

The last game had looked like a draw was the only outcome, but a neat sequence of moves sealed the win for Urmston and an exact reversal of the opening game.

With two matches left, Urmston have given themselves a great chance of staying off the bottom of the table, with bottom club Wilmslow the opposition in the final home game in April
