ALTRINCHAM Grammar School for Boys has a long connection with Ashley Cricket Club with their old boys team merging with Ashley in 1987.

The school were again great hosts for the annual Ashley sporting dinner looking to raise funds for the proud club which runs five adult teams, an over-40s side and has more than 100 junior members in various age ranges.

The guest speaker was Steve Daley, a renowned after-dinner speaker who was Europe’s most expensive footballer when he joined Manchester City in 1979.

He was supported by MC Jed Stone as a sell-out audience enjoyed a great evening.

Retiring Ashley chairman Dave Rice said: “We had terrific support from members and their friends and among the distinguished guest were former football stars David Sadler and Frank Carrodus and BBC Radio Manchester’s Jimmy Wagg and valuable funds were raised to support the club in the coming season.”
