RINGWAY Golf Club were hosts of the finals day for the Manchester and District Past Lady Captains, providing a superb course to make it a memorable day for the finalists and the Past Lady Captains' captain Glenys Ball at her home club.

The two qualifying competitions at Dukinfield and Worsley Golf Clubs saw the winners and runners-up make it through to finals day with the winners playing for the Past Lady Captains' Trophy.

It was between Tunshill pair Rebecca Owen and Carol Platt and Julie Connolly (Oldham) and Carol Corlett (Rochdale).

The third and fourth places competition was played between Denton’s Norma McIlvanney and Edith Rooney and Styal’s Aileen Holohan and Claire Whitney, who won the Captain’s Trophy in 2016.

The Tunshill duo made history for their club by winning the coveted trophy for the first time ever and the third place went to the Denton pair.

Ball said: “There was some excellent golf played and all of the players gave great compliments to the condition of the course and how much that they had enjoyed the day.”

Owen added: “We had a lovely day on a fabulous course with great company and the buffet was superb.

“It was a great privilege to win such a prestigious trophy and very special in being the first ones from Tunshill to do so with our 34 points total.”
