TRAFFORD MV ended their North Lancs/Cumbria Division campaign on a high with a 52-22 win at Workington.

MV scored early with winger Jamie Kingdon going outside his man to score out wide.

Workington showed good early commitment and levelled as Campbell crossed the line on 24 minutes.

But MV scored another unconverted try – a well-worked handling move breaking out of defence and finished by Andrew Moore.

The hosts were not in the mood to roll over and on 37 minutes Gorley fooled the Trafford backline with a dummy throw before quickly offloading the ball to Robinson who nipped in under the posts to give himself an easy conversion and put the Zebras ahead for the first time.

Then, in first -half stoppage time, came the game's turning point when Trafford pushed forward before scoring their third try, which was converted.

The referee adjudged home player Cape had caused deliberate obstruction just before the score and gave him a straight red card.

It was going to be an uphill struggle for Workington from this point and so it proved five minutes into the second half as Trafford produced two tries, through Stuart Crampton and Andy Quigley, in as many minutes to seal a bonus point for themselves and open up a 29-12 lead.

Workington did their utmost to try and get back into the game but Trafford stepped up a gear before cutting the Zebras' defence to ribbons with two further tries from John Kevan and Jack Gallagher.

The match was now out of reach but Workington, playing for pride, found Watkins on the end of a mazy break from defence to crash over.

Six minutes later it got better for the Zebras when, after Trafford were reduced to 14 men themselves with a yellow card for Gareth Bevan, a quick pass and move ended with Boyd going over in the corner to secure Workington a bonus point of their own.

Trafford had the last word with a converted try three minutes from time from youngster Greg Warren who converted his own try to finish the scoring.

Trafford MV have an excellent youth section which has blossomed with this current crop of maturing players who will complete their Colts rugby with an appearance in the Lancashire Plate Final on Sunday at Fleetwood against Tarleton.
