TRAFFORD Council and the Lawn Tennis Association have teamed up to bring the perfect double of a new tennis league and an online court booking system to the borough.

The league provides male and female amateur players with a fun opportunity to meet opponents of a similar ability and take part in semi competitive matches.

To join the league players simply need to upload their details to www.localtennisleagues.com and for a small charge they will then be able to play in rounds of five to seven matches over an eight week period. The league is available for all Trafford residents aged 18 and over, and matches can be played at any tennis site within the borough.

In addition to this, booking a court will now be even easier as a new online reservation system has been launched at www.parkstennistrafford.com.

The free system is available at Longford, John Leigh, Davyhulme and Ashton parks and allows players to book courts up to seven days in advance.

Cllr John Lamb, executive member for communities and partnerships, said “It’s fantastic to join with the national governing body of tennis to promote the game in Trafford.

"Our parks are the ideal place to play and the new league gives residents the opportunity to get fit, meet new people and have fun. Who knows we might even discover the next Andy Murray!”

Both schemes are set to launch on Sunday.
