TRAFFORD MV started 2016 where they left off last year with a good 36-10 home win against Lancashire (North) strugglers Bury.

MV opened with intent and scrum-half Patrick Eccles caught the defence flat-footed and scooted over wide on the right for the opening score.

Winger Zac Crabb then picked up a loose kick and his pace was too much as he carved a way to the line, Eccles converting to make it 12-0.

Some good forward driving and off-loads saw the ball slipped to Crabb who again outpaced defence to score his second before second row Andrew Clegg ploughed over from close range.

Eccles again converted to make it 24-0 to MV.

With the bonus point now in the bag it was looking as if a runaway score could be on the cards.

However Bury forced their way over wide on MV's right flank to leave it 24-5 at the break.

MV again opened strongly and it was the pace of winger Crabb that was just too much for a floundering Bury back line as he crossed the line again.

But there was a blow for the hosts when centre Jack Gallagher burst out of his own 22 and was brought down by an innocuous tackle by a chasing defender, breaking his ankle in the process.

Play was moved to an adjacent pitch whilst an ambulance was called and the game failed to get back to the same intensity. Jamie Kingdon scored a good try for MV before Bury had a late rally and managed to cross the line again.

MV are away this weekend at Ormskirk.
