MANCHESTER Storm produced one of the performances of the weekend in the Elite Ice Hockey League coming back from 1-0 down to defeat the Belfast Giants.

The first period saw the Belfast Giants go 1-0 up over the Storm just before the 10th minute.

Despite the continued pressure of the Giants, the Storm were able to tie things up seven minutes later when Vinny Scarsella let a fly with an absolute rocket into the top of the net for a power play goal.

The Giants however gave too many penalties away in the second period, and the Storm once again took advantage of the power play to go 2-1 up, thanks to Luke Salazar’s goal.

The third period was when the Storm really showed their ability and were able to dig deep defensively as they were battered by a continuous storm of shots from the Giants.

With just under two minutes to go, the Giants pulled their netminder, Stephen Murphy, to have the extra attacker – but were caught short on a shot from Matty Davies who scored from his own end into the empty net.

It was the perfect response after Storm fell to a 6-4 defeat to Dundee Stars on Saturday night.

The first period saw the Dundee Stars go 2-0 up over the Storm within the first 10 minutes of play.

Storm’s Patrik Valcak scored a beauty for the Storm’s only goal of the period and his seventh of the season, after 14 minutes, to half the deficit at the time to 1-2.

However the Storm continued to make errors, and the Stars capitalised upon these closing the period out 4-1 up over the Storm.

The second period saw the Storm begin to fight back, but not before the Stars added another to their tally during the 13th minute of the period.

The Storm were able to cut the Stars deficit to two goals by the end of the second however, thanks to goals by Ricard Birzinsh and Valcak.

Despite Matt Caria scoring his 14th of the season, the Stars wrapped up the victory by adding two more goals.
