URMSTON CC sealed promotion back to the Cheshire County Premier League in spectacular fashion beating Weaverham by one wicket in a last-ball thriller.

The heroics by Chris Turner's side were even more amazing considering rain affected play and it started at 1.45pm.

Needing to win and Sale to lose, Urmston invited Weaverham to bat first in a 39 over game.

Weaverham started very brightly scoring 80 off the first 10 overs for loss of one wicket.

The UCG side had to fight hard to get wickets with the Weaverham opener Kyle Clarke scoring freely before Callum Parkinson trapped him LBW for 53.

The visitors continued to score runs with the overseas Wilden Cornwall scoring quickly for his 63 before Brad Yates had him stumped off Callum Parkinson.

At last wickets began to fall more freely and Urmston managed to contain Weaverham for 199–9 off their 39 overs with Callum Parkinson taking 3-56 while brother Matthew claimed 5-117.

Urmston got off to a poor start losing Yates quickly for 0 and Callum Parkinson for five with the score on 25.

Calum Turner was next to fall soon after for 18.

Urmston battled back with a 65-run partnership between captain Chris Turner and Lewis Jackson keeping up with the run rate before the skipper fell for 39. Jackson and overseas Joey O'Connor continued to score to take the score to 130-4 before Jackson fell for a well grafted 42 and soon after O'Connor for 23. Wickets continued to fall quickly with Urmston now on 168-9 leaving Urmston the almost impossible task of 32 needed from the final three overs with one wicket left.

A big appeal for LBW against 17-year-old James Espley looked extremely close only to be turned down as the umpire had called no ball.

The game went into the final over with Zeeshan Assi on strike needing 18 off the over to secure victory.

Assi hit the first ball for six and scrambled a single of the next.

Espley then pushed another single before Assi hit a four.

The penultimate ball saw Assi hit another four needing four off the final ball.

The Weaverham off-spinner floated the ball up and Assi connected well to hit the ball over the ropes.

However the champagne stayed on ice for 10 minutes until news filtered through that Timperley had beaten Sale by 12 runs to seal the title win for Timperley and promotion too for Urmston.
