Lymm 10 Sale FC 32

Sale overcame early Lymm pressure to secure their sixth consecutive bonus point win and secure a five point lead at the top of the National 3 North table.

Sale’s Liam McGovern kicked a fifty metre penalty early on before the home side responded with a try from Dave Williamson. The Lymm full back secured a Sale clearance kick before kicking back over the advancing Sale defence to win the race for the touchdown, and Cormac Nolan added the conversion for a 7-3 Lymm lead.

An exchange of penalties brought the score to 10-6 in favour of the hosts but on 27 minutes the Sale pack drove Rhys Davies over from close range and McGovern added the conversion for a 13-10 lead.

This was the trigger for more Sale points and within the next seven minutes the visitors claimed two more tries, the first with Ciaran Connolly finishing off a superb move by Chris Mayor and Matt Simpson.

Then it was Connolly’s chance to turn provider as a break from Mayor inside the Sale half put Connolly in the clear only to be caught just short of the line but Mayor was on hand to take the final pass and McGovern secured both conversions.

With Sale seventeen points clear they gained their try bonus point from Jonathan Keep early in the second half and from then on the match seem to lose some of its vigour with the realisation by both sides that the game had been won. Despite opportunities no further points were scored as the match petered out as a contest in the latter stages.
