THE brother of Sale Sharks and England star Cameron Neild is set to follow in the family’s rugby footsteps having earned his place on the Cheshire County Squad.

Sol Neild, who is 15 and from Hale, earned the place alongside four classmates at Manchester Grammar School (MGS).

The boys - Charlie Pozniak and 14-year-old Abdul Khan, both of whom are from Didsbury, Alex Hull, 15 and from Warrington and Joe Thomason (14) from Wilmslow - will each start training with their new team in January.

Sol said: “I am extremely pleased to have been selecte - it helps me keep on my brother’s toes.”

Sol’s brother plays for Sale and England as a hooker while Sol himself prefers the position of open side flanker adding: “Rugby is quite an important sport in my family and it’s something that I too would love to do professionally.”

Sol’s has also made the Sale Sharks Academy and both achievements have been helped by the excellent coaching he receives at MGS.

MGS director of rugby, Steve Swindells, added: “Sol has always lived in his brother’s shadow and followed a similar route growing up.

“He is a very strong athletic ball carrier who has a good understanding of the game and has probably played out of position for the best of the team over the past two seasons; this is a rare quality for such a young man. He will do very well in the future and push for a 1st XV place next year.”
