SALE Golf Club members took part in a succession of competitions and special events during the club’s centenary week.

Members got into the spirit when they dressed up in authentic fashion of 100 years ago and enjoyed music, food and entertainment in the marquee installed by the clubhouse for the Centenary week.

As well as opens and other competitions Sale also staged the prestigious Mersey Men’s Shield with over 200 golfers involved.

The Captain’s Fifth qualifier at Sale was won by Chris Diggle with his 66 seeing him home from David Platt 67 and Neil Wadsworth and Stephen Rourke, both 68.

Midweek Stableford action for Sale’s men saw Mike Keane lead in with 42 points from Chris Buckley and Chris Aldcroft, both 41.

Medal action for Hale’s men saw Chris Brown in charge after a cpo on 68 with James Scott with Tom Jones, John Yates and Ian Goulty a shot off the pace.

In form Helen Allott took top spot on the Captain’s Day for ladies at Hale with 35 points seeing her one clear of Mandy Gilbert and Clare Withey.

The coveted Sciama Trophy at Dunham Forest was won at a canter by D Ormrod with a massive haul of 45 points seeing him home from A Davis 38 and J Lipton 37.

Forest ladies played a singles Stableford which was won by Lynne Margolis after a cpo on 34 points with Sue Wrigley and Betty Marks.

Ashton-on-Mersey’s men played round three of the Lawson Cup and Geoff Allan was the main man with 63 seeing him home from Alan Booth 65, and Peter Davies and Hayden Parry, both 66.

Mersey juniors played a 9-hole Stableford with Dan Leigh on top with 21 points, two more than George Hardman, Harvey Graham and James Hardman.

Mersey ladies played for the Lady Captain’s Souvenir with G Johnston on top with 68 from L Rowley 73.

A Thursday meal at Flixton was won by Peter Hamilton with 67, two less than Bradley Shackleton.

Rita McClellan won an EWGA medal for Flixton ladies with her 71 seeing her home by a shot from Irene Braithwaite.
