ALTRINCHAM are set to complete a transfer double deal on Monday.

Manager Graham Heathcote has had his sights set on a new striker and defender to bring his squad up to scratch for another Conference campaign.

And he is confident he has secured the right men for the job, with an announcement set to be made on Monday.

Both players have experience at Conference level or higher and should take the squad close to completion.

The news is a major boost for Heathcote, who has endured a difficult summer in the recruitment market.

Heathcote has already missed out on several of his biggest targets, with winger Alex Meechan opting to join York, Greg Strong has joined Northwich and former Solihull midfielder Phil Trainer has signed for Oxford.

"It's frustrating when you miss out on major targets," said the Robins boss.

"But one of the major problems we face is that we can't offer these players full-time football, so they look elsewhere.

"Then we also face financial barriers on top of that.

"We are always looking to bring in quality players but we're always at the back of the queue.

"That said, I'm pleased with how the squad is taking shape for the new season."
