SALE Sharks have strengthened their forward options after announcing the signing of South African international tighthead prop, Brian Mujati on a two-year deal.

Mujati scored a try on his debut for Steve Diamond's side as they wrapped up a 35-8 bonus point win against Leicester in the Kings of the North competition on Saturday.

He is recognises as one of the leading tighthead props in the world game and is a well-known figure in the world of rugby and joins from Racing Metro.

He also played 100 games for Northampton Saints having made his debut for them back in 2009.

Brian said: “I am delighted to be back in England and am really looking forward to playing in the Premiership again.

"My wife and children have settled in well in the North West and everyone has been so welcoming at the club – it’s a great place to be.

“The Premiership is a highly competitive league to play in but we have some great players here at Sharks.”

Director of Rugby Steve Diamond has plenty of first-hand knowledge of the skills Mujati can bring to the club.

He said: “This is the second time I have signed Brian. When I worked for Northampton Saints, heading up their recruitment department, I spotted Brian and he was an instant success at Franklins Gardens. He gives 100% every game and was very popular with the fans. I am sure the Sharks fans will be very happy with the signing.

Diamond expects the big prop to increase the scrummaging strength of the pack for the coming season, as well as adding some power in the loose.

He added: “This is a great signing for the club and will give us plenty of firepower up front. Vadim Cobilas was outstanding last season at tight head, but we had to rely on him every single game.

“With Brian joining us we can use both Brian and Vadim to our advantage and along with Ross Harrison and Eifion Lewis-Roberts at loose head, and with Tommy Taylor and Neil Briggs at hooker we will have a very competitive front three every game. We also have Ciaran Parker, Cameron Neild and James Flynn knocking on the door too.”
