A JEWISH stand-up comedian from Sale who has raised thousands of pounds for charity has been chosen as a torch bearer.

Cyril Baker, aged 76, pictured, who has been using humour to help good causes for 56 years, will carry the flame in Congleton on May 31.

His daughter, Sharon Buchalter, nominated her dad to carry the torch and said everyone in the family is proud of Cyril’s charity work for good causes, including the Christie Hospital.

“He’s never taken a penny in expenses – he does it all out of the goodness of his heart,” said Sharon.
