The Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Trafford on Sunday, June 24 it has been confirmed today.

The torch will be welcomed to the borough as it enters via the Lowry foot bridge at 6.15am.

It then sets off on its road journey from the Imperial War Museum on to Trafford Wharf Road and up Water's Reach to Old Trafford stadium.

It then goes down Warwick Road, Talbot Road, Chester Road and finally travels the length of Seymour Grove before moving into Manchester along Upper Chorlton Road.

During its time in Trafford the torch will be carried by torch bearers who were selected during the nominations process last year.

One of those who will be carrying the torch is Heather Davidson who was recently nominated for Manchester's Inspirational Young Woman of the Year. Heather said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen as a torch bearer, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and an honour to be part of such a historic event. It will not only bring London 2012 alive for our area but also mark an exciting period for the borough."

There will be further announcements as the torch relay approaches including information for residents on the best place to see the torch and details of events in the borough on June 24 to coincide with the torch relay.

Executive Councillor Jonathan Coupe said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people of Trafford to be part of something special and to come out and support their friends and neighbours who have been selected to carry the torch. All eyes will be on our borough whilst the torch is travelling through here and even though it's an early start on a Sunday it really is a once in a lifetime chance to come out and show their support and I would encourage our residents to do so. I am sure we will be able to demonstrate the community spirit and pride we all have in our wonderful corner of Greater Manchester."

Information around what else is happening the morning of the torch relay including transport, road closures and the best viewing points will be issued closer to the time.
