ALTRINCHAM have secured the signature of their main summer target after agreeing terms with Darren Tinson yesterday.

The Robins had been in hot pursuit of the experienced defender since it became clear he was leaving Burton and now they've got their man.

He will become key to Alty's defensive plans, especially after the departure of Peter Band to Hyde.

It ends almost two weeks of speculation after the 37-year-old's possible switch became embroiled in controversy.

The club announced his arrival on June 2, only for the player to claim he had not made any firm decision on his future.

But Tinson has now agreed to come to Moss Lane, leaving manager Graham Heathcote delighted.

He told SAM Sport: "He was my first summer target and that would've been whether Bandy was going or not.

"As soon as we found out Darren wanted to go part-time we did all we could to bring him here. I do believe he will improve our side.

"He has been successful at league and at Conference level and only a year ago he was playing at Old Trafford with Burton.

"He's always been a player you don't want to play against because he's very tough to get past and he'll be a great addition to the defence."

Tinson has been one of the outstanding defenders in the Conference during his two-year spell at Burton.

He also counts two of Alty's bitter rivals, Northwich Victoria and Macclesfield Town, among his former clubs.
