ALTRINCHAM are bracing themselves for a verdict on Jack Redshaw’s Moss Lane future after he was given a trial by Morecambe.

Alty had already received approaches for Redshaw from Blue Square Conference North rivals FC Halifax and Hyde, but the former Rochdale frontrunner saw a direct route back to League football after being invited to the Globe Arena.

He trained with the League Two club on Monday and Tuesday and was handed the chance to seal a place in their squad after being selected for a Reserve game against Tranmere on Wednesday night.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley and his assistant, former Alty boss Ken McKenna, were expected to reach a decision on the 21-year-old after watching him in match action, with Alty chiefs anxiously awaiting the outcome.

“Much as we want to keep Jack, he was up front with us from day one about wanting to get back into the league as quickly as he could,” said Alty manager Lee Sinnott. “He has got this opportunity now, and we should know by the end of the week how it has panned out. All we can do is wait and see what happens.”

With Harrogate Town visiting Moss Lane on Saturday (3pm), Sinnott could be short of options up front, should Redshaw move on.

“Michael Twiss didn’t travel to Workington because of illness, after previously picking up a calf niggle at Droylsden on New Year’s Day,” he said. “He’s ok now, but that’s three game he has missed, so we will have to see how he reacts to training.

“It’s no great secret that our away form has been holding us back, so it was particularly pleasing to reel off two straight wins, at Hinckley and Workington.

“Funnily enough, at Hinckley, I was telling the lads I’d be delighted with a 1-0, so they were all taking the mickey out of me after sticking four past them! I thought the players’ mental attitude was first-class in both games.”

Midfielder Liam Tomsett has been recalled by Blackpool, after finishing his loan spell, while keeper Stuart Coburn hopes to be fit after suffering a bruised elbow at Workington.
