IT was a case of déjà vu as players from Davenport and Altrincham dominated the leader board for the second week in succession at Dunham Forest in the annual battle for the Robert Wax Trophy.

Davenport assistant pro Graham Cox was the top individual pro for the second successive week as he like the rest of a bumper full house of over 170 players enjoyed superb greens and excellently presented course.

Cox posted 39 points to lead in by a point from Scott Jackson (Disley) and Anthony Millar (Cheadle).

The back to back wins means that he is setting the early pace in the individual pro Order of Merit.

He also took the honours in the pro am section as he and his dad Geoff, who plays at Warrington, topped the pro am section with 44 points.

They led by a point from Disley’s Jamie Goodhall and Phil Housley who won a cpo on 43 points from Tony Stevens and Mike Jones (Davenport) and Andrew Terry (Springfield Park) and Graham Jackson (Manchester).

Altrincham were again the top dogs in the am am section with the combination of Paul McDonald and Danny Miller, pictured carding 44 points to win the Robert Wax Trophy.

Trophy holders Swinton Park just missed out as Jimmy O’Reilly and John Riley were second with 42 points with Sale’s Mo Rawthore and his junior Captain George Drakonakis completing the prize list with 41 points.

Dunham Forest ladies played for the Colette Levy Trophy and in a tight finish Rhona Solomon won a cpo on 75 from Elise Calmonson, Joy Blakey and Cath Barker.

Ashton-on-Mersey juniors played for the Captain’s Prize and it was taken by Joe Denman with his 68 seeing him four shots clear of Niall Evans and Adam Robinson.

Sale ladies played a Team Stableford and the powerful combination of Hilary Tarleton, Jenny Kehoe and Gill Ross were too hot to handle with their 84-point haul seeing them four clear of Sue Barrett, Margaret Clarke and Pat Hannah.

The Life Members Cup for Sale’s men was played over 36 holes and Rod Foster was a clear winner with his 133 total giving him a three-shot edge over Robert Moore and Jack Bullough with Mark Marshall having the best gross of 149.

Hale’s men played their medal final and in a top class finish Nigel Taylor led in with a scorching 62 giving him a one-shot edge over Matthew Nelstrop and Tom Griffiths.

William Wroe’s ever-active Vets were in two competitions with George Smith winning a singles Stableford with 40 points and the David Thomas Trophy was won by Dave Harrison with 60 after a cpo with Jim Gardner.

It was tight at Flixton as their men played for the Anniversary Trophy with four players locked on 68.
