TRAFFORD Rowing Club started their summer regatta programme in style last Saturday (May 15). At the first event at Shrewsbury over a 1000 metre course on the River Severn they recorded five victories.

Andy Sykes and Simon Weeks in their first competitive outing in double sculls achieved a win in the novice event over Liverpool Victoria and the event favourites, Pengwern.

The same pairing went on to win the Masters C event overcoming a strong challenge from Nottingham Boat Club.

The club also achieved 3 wins in single sculls event for juniors. Will Robinson won the junior sculls event, Kernius Malys won the junior 17 event beating Kings School Worcester and Bewdley Rowing Club while Ben Archer won the junior 14 event overcoming competition from Runcorn Rowing Club.

There were also strong performances from a number of women junior scullers in their events.

After a strong start in the first event, the club’s attention now turns to the Northwich regatta on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31 where the club will also have a large presence.

Trafford Rowing Club is also organising an open evening as part of the launch week of the Trafford phase of the Bridgwater Way during the first week of June. The club will be offering the opportunity for people to come and try rowing on June 3 between 6pm and 8pm. If you are interested in trying rowing for free, just turn up at the club on the Thursday evening.
