SALE Sharks' Byron McGuigan says the experiences of fellow winger Denny Solomona can only benefit the squad in the long run, as he and his team-mates finish their first week of pre-season.

McGuigan ended his first season at the Sharks, having scored six tries for the club.

And after a summer break, he is ready to go again.

he told the club's website: "It was a good summer – it was nice to get back home and see the family.

"It was a much-needed break, I got a chance to recover and I'm now feeling fresh.

"It was a good season personally for me.

"We didn't finish in the league where we wanted to but if you look back at the season there are a couple of close losses which hopefully we can turn into wins, which I believe we can do.

"Add the new signings on board, and I see us in the top half in the table."

New signing Josh Strauss is good friends with McGuigan, and he's looking forward to welcoming his fellow South African to the AJ Bell Stadium.

He added: "Josh and I are good friends, and I don't want to blow too much smoke as he reads all these articles and he loves it – it's going to be good to have him here.

"We're going to make a stand called the 'Billtong Stand', where all the South Africans can go! So I'm looking forward to that."

He said the benefits of Sale's international players can only be a positive for the club.

McGuigan said: "It's great to see any of our players succeed, we had our lads on tour with England plus Mike and Josh playing in the Baa-Baas game.

"It's great to see. Denny comes back with that experience – he's the guy to chase.

"He comes with many great ideas from England and it's only a positive for the rest of us."
