WITH the Stretford Cricket Club first team's Greater Manchester League Division Two clash rained off at Stand, the club's seconds took advantage of the good drying conditions at home against Newton Heath.

The left-arm quickies, Benj Evans and Peter Stamper, put Newton Heath on the back foot losing two early wickets.

Evans and Marc Stamper took three wickets each as Newton Heath finished on 72.

Stretford scored the runs required at Lesley Road, losing four wickets with Matthew Laker top scoring with 23.

The third team visited Swinton Moorside on Sunday and the young side came away with an excellent victory, posting 208 and bowling Swinton out for 124.

Laker scored an unbeaten 50, with support from Ocean O'Malley (40) and Ahmad Muhammad (30).

The fourth team visited Ashton Ladysmith who scored 180.

In reply, Stretford were all out for 124 with 13-year-old Alfie Stamper scoring 28.

The first team are at home to Droylsden on Saturday and the seconds are away to Springhead.

The following day, the fourth team are away to Thornham in the cup.

Tomorrow sees the second round of the Raymond van Schoor six-a-side competition.

The Stretford Spitfires under-19s play Urmston at home the following Friday.
