BROOKLANDS first XI won twice in a week to make it four victories in a row.

They started their T20 Cup campaign last Thursday with a thumping six-wicket win at a Didsbury side from the division above featuring two Cheshire players.

One of those, Simon Normanton, scored 72 not out as the hosts compiled 143-6 from their 20 overs.

Opening bowlers Christian Potter (2-20) and Dan Duke (2-10) kept it tight in their four overs.

In reply, Brooklands only needed 17 of the 20 overs as Duke went crazy, scoring 68no in 42 balls including eight sixes, with support from Jack Bagshaw (31 from 19).

In Cheshire County League Division Two on Saturday, they faced their longest away trip to Upton on the Wirral.

Upton restricted Brooklands to 156-6 with an important partnership between former captain Dave Madden (36no) and Mark Law (33no) giving the Bears a competitive score.

Upton did not have any answers to Duke (5-24) and new captain AJ Hart (3-20) and were bowled out for 92 to give Brooklands an impressive 64-run victory and move them up to third in the table.

The second XI won their second consecutive match in the reverse fixture, with Dan Owen's 103no not receiving much support as they were bowled out for 146.

Pick of the bowlers were Alex Robinson (4-37), Tom Mitchell (2-26) and Rob Leach (2-36).

As with last week, the reply stuttered but Brooklands got over the line in the 51st over for the loss of eight wickets; George Storrow (55) the mainstay with Doug Whyley (33) and Leach (22no) steering the side home despite the best efforts of Graeme Keenan (4-30).

The third XI bowled out Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge for 120 with Cameron Buchan's four wickets crucial; while 30s from Ross Willard and Jaydutt Kamath helped Brooklands home by seven wickets.

On Sunday, the fourth XI's campaign started with a draw at Woodley.

Prithi Mody was the pick of the bowlers, the 14-year-old taking 3-10 as Woodley scored 182.

Father and son Paul and Sam Higgins scored 41 and 35, respectively, opening in response but the support was not quite there and the innings petered out to 143-8 in their 40 overs and a draw.

This weekend sees the first XI play two home games – Barrow (from near Chester) on Saturday and a big derby against Sale in the Cheshire Cup.

The second XI play at Sale on Saturday and the third XI travel to Haslingden. The fourth XI's first home game is on Sunday against Ashley.
