WORLD Championship gold medal-winning swimmer James Guy was back on familiar territory recently to train with his former Swim Trafford squad.

The 20-year-old who won two golds at last year's championships in Russia visited Stretford Sports Village to catch up with his former club.

The Bury-born star represented Great Britain in the FINA world championships and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games.

He specialises in the 200m and 400-metre freestyle. He won the 200-metre freestyle and 4×200-metre freestyle relay events in Kazan last year.

Guy still holds records at Trafford Metro Borough Swimming Club and Swim Trafford from the age of 10.

The first two months of the new year have been successful for Trafford performance swimming club.

The club competed in the 2016 Lancashire County Championships at Manchester Aquatics Centre and finished third team in both the age group and overall championships – their best county performance.

It was a fantastic achievement especially as they were competing against much larger teams with more resources.

The team are jetting to Spain with Blackpool Swimming Club this month for a week of training.
