MAN-of-the-match Luke Fidler had cause to celebrate as a hat-trick on his return from injury helped Urmston Hockey Club's men’s firsts pick up all three points in a 6-3 win over Liverpool Sefton.
After a slow start saw them 2-1 down at the break, it was a five-star showing in the second half to down their opponents.
James Duke, Robin Cooper and Stefan Wasilewski weighed in with the other goals while Charlie Weems picked up a green card.
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the men’s second XI as they beat Lytham St Anne’s 5-1 in a testy affair on Saturday before being downed by Springfields 5-3 the following day.
Aaron Kelly's brace alongside man-of-the-match Chris Martin’s goal helped the Greens to a comprehensive and disciplined win on Saturday.
On Sunday, Andy Wilson scored but a perfect weekend eluded the side despite Humza Ahmed’s tireless man-of-the-match display while Craig Wilson received a yellow card for retaliation.
The ladies’ firsts were undone by goals at the end of each half as they lost 2-1 to Oldham firsts with Gemma Booth scoring a well-worked goal with Danielle Harvey.
Becky Crossley, Stacey Brown and Emma Brady shared the Players’ Player vote with Brown also picking up a green card.
Meanwhile, the men’s thirds were unlucky to lose 2-0 to rivals Didsbury Northern 7s despite Neil Slater’s shining goalkeeping performance on his return to action while the ladies seconds went down 4-3 to Glossop.
