ALTRINCHAM Kersal Under-9s entered the Manchester Rugby Festival and came away with some impressive results.

After only four training sessions during pre-season the squad set out to play their first competitive games of contact rugby.

Kersal were drawn against some of the best teams in the North West.

The day proved to be a very successful one though which saw the team play five games against Lymm, Fylde , Waterloo, Macclesfield and Broughton Park.

They won four of their games and drew one against Lymm.

A spokesman for the club said: "All the squad contributed to a great team effort, with Edward Needham showing some really strong running skills to get his team into the opposition's half and new recruit Fin Roberts, in his first game of rugby ever, looking like a tackling machine.

"Both boys were named as Altrincham's players of tournament."

Next week the boys are at the Rossendale Festival and hoping build on this success.
