VISITORS Droylsden were blown away by a whirlwind start that saw Trafford roar into a 3-0 lead that guaranteed them a place in the quarter-finals of the Manchester Premier Cup.

Tom Baker’s side attacked from the start and in the 10th minute visiting keeper Sam Ramsbottom produced a miraculous save to tip a Jack Dorney drive over the crossbar.

Two minutes later, however, Ramsbottom was powerless to prevent Trafford taking the lead when he could only parry a low drive by Phil Dean allowing Joe Shaw the simplest of tasks in side-footing home from six yards.

Dorney went close again two minutes later and then Shaw rounded the under-fire Ramsbottom but hesitated and Nathan Haynes cleared.

In the 20th minute Trafford doubled their lead when a deep corner to the back post was coolly lifted over Ramsbottom by centre half Tom Smyth.

And three minutes later the tie was as good as over when Kyle Jacobs threaded the ball through to Joe Shaw whose low cross was turned into his own goal by Jacob Wood.

Trafford keeper Luke Pilling produced a fine save to tip a 25 yard-screamer from Cameron Lyn over the crossbar and Jack Dorney thought that he had made it 4-0 in the 39th minute but his ‘goal’ direct from a corner was ruled out for a push on Ramsbottom.

The second half was something of an anti-climax although Lee Rick almost made it four when his chip from 30 yards was cleared off the line by Danny Parkinson and Danny Lambert blasted over from close range following good work by Dorney.

Fernando Moke should have reduced the arrears in the 63rd minute but shot over from 10 yards and substitute Nyal Bell broke clear but was thwarted by a brave save by Luke Pilling.

After Trafford substitute Connor Martin headed wide at the near post, the game ended with Droylsden’s Billy Hasler-Cregg cutting in from the left and drawing a fine full length save by the impressive Pilling.

It was the perfect response from the Shaw View men after they lost 4-1 to Sheffield in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy with Phil Dean scoring a late consolation effort.

Manager Baker will be hoping there will be plenty to celebrate on Non-League Day on October 10 and Trafford are making free offers for their game against Radcliffe Borough at 3pm.

There is free admission for armed and emergency services and NHS workers along with local schools and clubs as well as free hot dogs or drinks for kids.

On Tuesday night, Lancaster City are the visitors kick-off is 7.45 pm.
