The TACS Partnership Cheshire Cricket League - Division 1
Ashton-on-Mersey CC – 1st XI – 186-9
Lost to
Mobberley CC – 1st XI – 189-7
Ashton on Mersey lost a see-saw top of the table clash at Championship favourites Mobberley.
Batting first Ashton did well against some fine seam bowling with James Lines posting 53 before being run out.
Paul Eastham kept the run rate going with a polished 48 and maximum batting points were earned despite Matt Mountney’s fine bowling (4-31)
Mobberley lost early wickets but Mountney proved as good with the bat as he was with the ball hitting a fine 57 before falling to spinner Mike Roberts.
With Mobberley reduced to 130-7 Ashton had hopes of victory but with the wet conditions making bowling increasingly difficult some hard hitting by Abdul Aqeel (43 not out ) and Armand Wolmarans saw the home side through to a narrow victory. (Roberts 3-68, Knowles 2-27).
The result leaves Ashton in third place in the division needing strong performances in the next few weeks to keep in the promotion hunt.
