MANCHESTER Phoenix celebrated with the league trophy on Sunday night after winning the final league game of the season in style against Telford.

Fan favourite Michal Psurny struck in overtime to seal a come from behind win against a talented Telford side that led the match 3-1 going into the final period.

The game itself was a formality in terms of the final league standings as Phoenix’s quarterfinal tie with the Bracknell Bees was confirmed the previous night whilst Tony Hand’s men won 3-2 at Peterborough to end the their hopes of reaching the post season tournament.

It was, however the visitors who dominated the scoring in the opening periods, leading by two goals going into the final period with a lone James Archer strike for the league champions in the first period.

But, as they have shown all season, Hand’s side found a way to win.

Archer struck back to back goals to complete his hat-trick in a man of the match performance before Hand himself netted the go ahead goal whilst the home side was a man light.

The Tigers however drew level with little over four minutes remaining, leaving Psurny to win it with a sudden death goal in the extra period before the celebrations could begin with the presentation of the EPL trophy they secured last week.

Coach Tony Hand’s side will now look to defend the playoff crown they won last season and complete a league double.

Hand said: “In a game that did not have anything hanging on it, I thought both teams served up an entertaining match. We got our goals at key times and deservedly won the game.

“Credit to Telford for making a game of it and fighting to the last. Now we will get ready for the quarter final at Bracknell on Saturday.”
