by Kyle Green Manchester Phoenix 6-4 Sheffield Steeldogs CZECH forward Robin Kovar netted the first of five unanswered second period goals and helped Manchester Phoenix power past Sheffield on Sunday.

Kovar broke away shorthanded with Phoenix trailing 2-1 and netted past Steeldogs’ netminder Dalibor Sedlar with a stellar finish to start a quick fire goal fest.

Tempers came to boiling point between Phoenix’s Andy McKinney and Sheffield’s Callum Pattison in a full bloodied fight before further goals from hot shots Michel Psurny and Frantisek Bakrlik (2) was added to by defenceman Ben Wood to propel Phoenix into a 6-2 lead at the second break.

Sheffield struck with two late consolation goals via Ashley Calvert and Lloyd Gibson but Tony Hand’s side had done the damage and Phoenix registered another four point weekend after defeating Slough Jets 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

The double win leaves Phoenix sat atop of the English Premier League level on points with second place Guildford, but with a game in hand to come.
