GREATER Manchester’s unsung sporting heroes were honoured by Olympic gold medallist, Rebecca Adlington, at this year’s Greater Manchester Sports Awards in partnership with National Leisure Apprenticeships.

Held to recognise the impact grass-roots level sport has on communities across the city and its boroughs, the awards highlighted the hidden superstars who make sports possible in their towns, with each area offering seven nominees in total.

Rebecca Adlington presented the awards on the evening on Friday 8 November 8, at the Point, Emirates Old Trafford.

Organised by Greater Manchester sports charity, GreaterSport, in partnership with National Leisure Apprenticeships, the awards have been held for 13 years to honour the achievements of people working in and playing sport.

The categories and winners are: - Rochdale Company of Archers, (Rochdale) Club of the Year in partnership with Davies Sports - Pete Wild (Oldham) Coach of the Year supported by GreaterSport - Jamie Kelly (Rochdale) Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year in partnership with Mark Pollock Trust - Georgia Taylor-Brown (Tameside) Sports Achiever of the Year in partnership with Xtra Mile events - Dorothy Shirley-Emmerson (Oldham) Unsung Hero in partnership with Manchester United Foundation - Ian Dunkerley (Oldham) Volunteer of the Year in partnership with The National trust - Pete Wild (Oldham) Be Inspired Winner supported by GreaterSport.
