THE recently closed William Wroe Golf Course didn’t stay quiet for long as families flocked there to show support for a Save Flixton Green Belt fun day fundraiser.

On Saturday April 8, green belt campaigners held the William Wroe Roam on the redundant golf course, which is being threatened with development.

Throughout the day, hundreds of residents enjoyed golf-themed events, such as family footy golf and hole in one challenges, an Easter egg hunt, nature ramble and bouncy castles.

Save Flixton Green Belt is fighting to prevent 750 houses being erected on part of the William Wroe golf course, and the removal of green belt status from Flixton playing field, park and Flixton House, as part of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework plans.

A spokesperson for Save Flixton Green Belt said: “A big thanks goes out to the guest speakers on the day, MP Kate Green and Trafford Labour Group leader Andy Western, both big supporters of our campaign and who rallied the residents.

“More than £600 was donated to the cause, which is absolutely fantastic. Well done and thanks to the community for their support.”
