AN intruder walked into an unlocked home in Flixton, crept upstairs and “calmly” stole jewellery and a computer while children were sleeping in their rooms.

The thief got into the house in Whitelake Avenue through an unlocked kitchen door, then walked past a dozing parent to go upstairs, where two children were sleeping.

The man, in his 40s or 50s, was disturbed by the parent, who woke up and discovered the intruder calmly walking down the stairs.

The burglar, who was carrying the homeowner’s 21-inch iMac computer and jewellery, fled while the frightened parent screamed at him.

The man was 5ft 8in, medium build, and was wearing dark bottoms, a dark beanie and a dark coat.

Police were called to the incident at about 11pm on Sunday, March 26.

A GMP Trafford spokesman said: “As you can imagine this was particularly frightening for the occupant, especially as there were children in the house.

“We would advise that, now the lighter nights are coming, please remember to lock your doors, even whilst at home.”

Anyone who has seen the stolen items or believes they witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area can contact police on 101, quoting reference 2493/260317.
