Police are investigating after the body of a man was discovered in Urmston.

Emergency services were called to a property on Manor Avenue shortly after 6.40pm on December 22, and discovered the body of a man.

An investigation has been launched and police are treating the death as suspicious.

A home-office post mortem and formal identification are due to take place.

A 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Superintendent Simon Retford of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “People will understandably be alarmed when they hear about this, but I want to offer my assurances that we have launched a full investigation with a team of detectives carrying out enquiries this morning.

“We will be doing everything we can to establish what has happened and will continue to work hard to address any concerns local residents may have and offer support to anybody in the community affected by this incident.

“I would urge you to come forward if you saw or heard anything suspicious in the area that might help us establish how the man died.

“Your information might be vital to our investigation so I would ask you contact police immediately with anything you know.”
