A FIVE-year-old Davyhulme girl will be the special guest at a fundraiser in Urmston this weekend – as the event is in her honour.

Carrington Rugby Club is holding its annual Urmston and Carrington Community Fun Day on Saturday July 16.

The event, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year, will be held at 5th Urmston Scouts on Queen’s Road.

The club has chosen to once again support the Willow Rose Fund, in aid of Willow Rose Ollerenshaw, who suffers from muscular dystrophy (MD).

Willow’s mum and dad, Jaclyn and Mark, are active fundraisers and over the past year, have been raising money for research into the rare condition.

When the rugby club discovered Mark was in fact one of their players, they offered to do whatever they could to support the cause. Last year’s event raised more than £1,200 for the Willow Rose Fund.

Carrington Rugby Club chairman, Stuart Brame, the driving force behind the funday, said: “To be part of a local event raising money and awareness for a local charity such as The Willow Rose fund is fantastic. It is a great day for the local community and it is something that I and all of Carrington rugby club are extremely proud to be part of.”

The fun day has raised around £15,000 for charities including, Finn’s Fund in Flixton.

This Saturday’s event starts at 12noon and finishes at 5pm. Trafford’s Mayor and Mayoress will be in attendance. Admission is £1 for adults and 50p for children. All profits go to the Willow Rose Fund.
