I MUST take issue with Andy Worthington's letter in The Messenger 13/7/17.
Ask where is this £24m is to be spent - understand it is mainly on demolishing and rebuilding Altrincham Leisure Centre and maintenance on Urmston Leisure Centre.
No good for north of borough (Urmston, Davyhulme, Stretford) - could take up to an hour travel when busy.
Yes, other local authorities are closing leisure facilities - so are Trafford ie. George Carnell, William Roe Golf Course and reduced hours at Partington.
Urmston is not big enough to take displaced users - gym too small, halls too small, car park too small, no squash courts.
How much money will Trafford get for George Carnell and golf course land for housing - no mention of this - probably will
offset any spending?
Decisions have already been made so there is no speculation - Trafford has got it WRONG - it will be too late once planning is finalised and no amount of reporting will correct it.
The Messenger must not be bullied into keeping quiet
