TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill in Brooklands after an accident involving an elderly couple whose vehicle was in collision with a stationary vehicle on Brooklands Road.
The accident occurred around 11am on the stretch close to Wendover Road, when the couple's vehicle, which is believed to be a Citroen was in collision with a vehicle parked at the roadside.
An eyewitness who was on the scene shortly after the accident said: "The couple collided with the stationary vehicle and their car turned over.
"They were screaming and I ran to help them but was advised by a paramedic to leave them in the vehicle to await emergency services who cut them out of the vehicle."
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester fire and Rescue said four engines from Wythenshawe, Altrincham, Sale and a specialist team with specialist cutting equipment from Ashton-under-Lyne all attended the scene.
A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We attended the scene at 11.21am where there were two casualties trapped in the vehicle who were both conscious."
She added: "They were taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with minor injuries.
