A CHARITY shop which hosts “Knit and Natter” sessions, offers iPad courses to novices and even provides free WiFi has opened up in the heart of Sale.

On Saturday March 11, Sale welcomed back The Salvation Army Charity Shop to the town centre.

The ‘The Light’ shop has opened up on Washway Road, near M&S.

On its launch day, the Army’s brass band played in the town centre and volunteers handed out leaflets to passersby.

The shop was officially opened by Major Aubrey Draycott and the official ribbon cutting by Deputy Mayor for Trafford, Jonathan Coupe.

Rachel Steward, community manager for Sale Salvation Army Church, said: “Two years have passed since the closure of the previous Salvation Army shop in the town, and this has given time for considering just what was needed.

“The Light is a charity shop with a difference – offering not only good quality clothing, books and bric a brac at very reasonable prices, but a seating area where people can come and relax and chat.

“A ‘Knit and Natter’ group is starting on a Friday afternoon, which will give the opportunity for people to meet together, make new friends or learn to knit.”

In time, the shop will also be offering a craft afternoon, events for children during the school holidays and computer and iPad courses for anyone wanting to learn the basics. There is also free Wi-Fi in the shop available to all customers.

Rachel said: “The aim of the shop is to serve the community both in practical ways but also to be a support to people who are in need of a listening ear, advice or signposting to the right support for their needs.

“The Salvation Army would like to thank everyone who has contributed in any way towards the opening of the shop, and we look forward to being a vibrant part of serving Sale community.”
